About us

The Sovereign Grand Lodge Helios (S.G.L.H.) is a sovereign and independent Masonic organization.

Our goal is to build a strong and respected Masonic community, based on moral values, fraternal support, and respect for ancient and modern Masonic laws. By nurturing Masonic practice, we strive for personal improvement and the common good, guided by the principles of honor, truth, and justice.

The Sovereign Grand Lodge Helios fosters openness toward other Masonic organizations and invites all Brethren of goodwill to cooperate in the spirit of brotherhood, harmony, and shared advancement of Freemasonry.

Foundations of light and order

Key moments in the emergence and spread of the brotherhood are presented through ornamental records, in the spirit of tradition, continuity, and inner work.

Formation of the citizens' association

On December 4, 6023, the citizens' association was officially founded, laying the foundations for the further development of Masonic work and social engagement.

First work of the women's lodge

On June 3, 6023, the first official work of the women's lodge was held, marking an important step in spreading Masonic principles among women.

Bringing light into Lodge Helios

On July 22, 6023, Lodge Helios received the light, beginning its work in accordance with Masonic values and tradition.

Bringing light into the Sovereign Grand Lodge Helios

On October 29, 6023, light was brought into the Sovereign Regular Grand Lodge Helios, marking its official founding and the beginning of its work as a key center of Masonic activity.

Bringing light into Lodge Bonafides

On October 29, 6023, light was also brought into Lodge Bonafides, making it an important part of the Masonic community and a bearer of Masonic values.

Bringing light into Lodge Royal Secret

Also, on October 29, 6023, Lodge Royal Secret was founded, continuing the tradition of Freemasonry through learning, moral development, and brotherhood.

Today

The revival of Freemasonry in Serbia began in the 1990s, when the first regular lodges were re-established. Today, Freemasonry in Serbia continues to grow, and the Sovereign Regular Grand Lodge Helios, together with Lodges Bonafides and Royal Secret, carries on this rich tradition, bringing light and wisdom to new generations of Freemasons.

First lodges

Freemasonry in Serbia dates back to the late 18th and early 19th century, when the first lodges were founded under the influence of European Masonic organizations. The first known Serbian Freemasons were merchants, nobles, and intellectuals who spread the principles of brotherhood, humanity, and enlightenment.

19th century

During the 19th century, Freemasons played an important role in the political and cultural life of Serbia. Masonic lodges were gathering places for progressive thinkers and advocates of social reform.

20th century

In the 20th century, Freemasonry in Serbia faced major obstacles. During both world wars, lodges were banned and their members persecuted. After World War II, Freemasonry was completely banned in communist Yugoslavia, but survived thanks to Masons who continued their work abroad.
