Basic requirements for candidates
We view a candidate as a person ready to work seriously on character and responsibly accept the obligations that membership carries.
- A free person of good reputation: integrity, personal honesty, and a life without acts that damage reputation are expected.
- Financial independence: membership dues and charitable contributions should be sustainable, without compromising family security.
- Belief in a Supreme Being: Freemasonry is not a religion, but it assumes acceptance of a higher creative principle.
- Legal adulthood: the usual minimum is 21 years, with rare exceptions in special circumstances.
